AN INVITATION
Birdhouse Yarns recently celebrated its 9th anniversary, and in thinking back to when I opened the doors in 2015, I am filled with gratitude and joy for what you have all built here. I have worked hard to maintain a space where all are welcome and where you have the opportunity to buy luscious and everyday yarn, to find new tools and accessories and mostly, to have a community space to meet new and old friends.
I opened this shop in the space once occupied by another yarn shop, Kiwi Knitting. I worked at Kiwi for a number of years before it closed and started to have my own ideas about running a yarn shop. Before I could approach the owner about perhaps buying into Kiwi, etc, she had already decided to retire and close.
Luckily I was able to work with her a bit and learn some things more in depth about running a yarn shop before she closed the doors. And she was a valuable resource as I created Birdhouse Yarns and reopened in the same spot. If I hadn’t been hovering in the wings with my desire, Kiwi would have closed and we would have had one less yarn shop in Tucson.
Now, I am considering my future, and the future of Birdhouse Yarns. I know that I would like to be able to have Birdhouse Yarns continue its place in this community. I do not have a plan in place, but feel that in order for Birdhouse to continue when I am ready to retire, I should start this discussion. There may already be a someone or someones who are dreaming of owning and running a yarn shop.
This is my invitation to you - if you ever thought you might like to own a yarn shop, or if you would like to explore the possibility, please reach out to me, Holly, (admin@birdhouseyarns.com) and we can have a chat.
